Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the longest lakes in the Lake District, being 4 miles long and 3/4 mile wide. It is also extrmely shallow, being 70 ft deep at its deepest poiint. It is owned by the National Park Authority, is a nature reserve which is home to many forms of wildlife, including the rare vendace fish species, as well as Ospreys.
It is situated near Keswick, and at the foot of Skiddaw.
