Bateman’s is a Jacobean house – the home of Rudyard Kipling and kept just as he left it, reflecting the author's exotic oriental tastes .In contains original illustrations for The Jungle Book, drawn by Detmold brothers. There are delightful gardens which run down to the River Dudwell and a working watermill , and well as Kipling's 1928 Phantom 1 Rolls-Royce. There is also a Dog crèche.
The garden is open free of charge in November and December. Shop and tea-room are open the same time as the garden during these months
