Carlisle Castle offers an informative and fun day out for all the family.
Founded in 1092 to protect the historic city of Carlisle, visitors can hear about the role the castle played in various sieges and battles. You can also hear stories about the ghastly prison! You can also hear about grim tales of ther castle's past, including the infamous "licking stones", where parched Jacobean prisoners found moisture to stay alive.
In the keep there is a model of the city in 1745, and an exhibition on Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite rising of that year
Admission also includes entry to the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment Museum. Another feature of the site is the Carlisle Roman Dig, a fully accessible exhibition displaying the finds from recent excavations.
