Once part of a World War II prisoner of war camp, the thirty-three huts at Eden Camp near Pickering in North Yorkshire now house a unique collection of wartime exhibits, forming the world's only nationally recognised Modern History Theme Museum.
Each aspect of the story of British social life in wartime and the events between 1939 and 1945 (such as rationing, air raid precautions, naval warfare and the Blitz) is brought to life in a specific hut through a set of immersive audiovisual exhibits and interactive scenes, allowing visitors to see, hear and smell 1940s Britain.
In addition to the indoor exhibits, Eden Camp also possesses a large outdoor collection of military machinery and other World War II relics, and a 'museum within a museum' - a set of huts explaning the political background of the war, including scenes such as the Dunkirk landings and V.E. Day.
Eden camp is an unusual and exciting historical museum, providing a fascinating day out for visitors of all ages.
