The Betharram grottos are some of the most beautiful grottos in the world and must be the most interesting to visit because of their large variety of formations. They are also a means to understand the key to the development of almost all dead and active grottos.
They were discovered in 1810 and were one of the first open to the public.
In the 1880's the British from Pau were led into the Grottes by the local miller.
After several years work by one of the first photographers of the Pyrenees, Leon Ross, the Grottes were opened to the general public in 1903.
