The Château (castle) Moncade, was the centre of administration for the region was administered in the Middle Ages. It has partially disappeared but the keep, or tower, the "Tour Moncade" still dominates visual the town.
The moated tower was more recently used as a prison.
There are magnificent views from the top of the tower, with the Pyrenees in the distance.
The Rue Moncade is the main road from the tower to the river crossing which are all on one of the main pilgrims’ routes through Aquitaine to Compostella.
