Villa Arnaga was built for Edmond Rostand, author of Cyrano de Bergerac, who came to Cambo-Les-Bains cure his pleurisy in 1903. This very large Basque house overlooks a formal garden which is almost surreal with discs and rectangles of water and segments of grass punctuated by blobs, cubes and cones of box trees and lined by blue cedars and limes. Into the distance is a view of green hills of the Pays Basque. The inside, it's very kitsch, and it has a minstrels' gallery, fake pilasters, frescoes, chandeliers, numerous portraits and various memorabilia.
An insight into the tastes of this world famous author.
