Ennerdale is the most remote of lakes in the Lake District, as well as being the most westerly. It is the only lake with no nearby road and thsi ensures that even in the busy season it offers a real sense of peace and tranquility.
It is 21/2 miles long and 3/4 mile wide, and is one of the deepest lakes at 148 feet deep.
The lake serves as a resevoir and is managed jointly by the Forestry Commission, The National Trust and United Utilities.
