Estate grounds open daily. Please note the castle is not open to the public but can be viewed from the grounds

Lowther Castle is set in the magnificent Lowther Estate. It has been the family home of the Earls of Lonsdale who trace their history back to the Norman Conquest.

The present building was started in 1806, for Sir Hugh Lowther the fifth Earl. It was commissioned to be a design of elegance and strength. Sadly after the death of the fifth Earl, the Castle was abandoned
