Welcome to the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway
The railway was opened in 1898, built to a gauge of one foot eleven and a half inches (600mm), and closed in 1935. It ran for 19 miles from Lynton to Barnstaple. It is now owned by a Charitable Trust, and run totally 'not for profit', with most of the work carried out by unpaid volunteers. The eventual aim is to reopen the full 19 miles. At present one mile, from Woody Bay station to Killington Lane, has been opened. The next stage will be to reopen to Parracombe and Blackmoor Gate.
