The famous "martyr Village" subject to a terrible Nazi massacre in Worl War Two. Rebuilt village with museum, artefacts, memories, exhibitions.
This site is about a massacre that took place in the town of Oradour-sur-Glane, in the Haute-Vienne region of France on Saturday 10th of June 1944. The Nazi's drove into Oradour and killed everyone that they could find, a total of 642 men, women and children. The town was then looted and every building, set on fire. To this day there is no universally agreed explanation as to why the SS acted as they did, or why they chose Oradour for their attack.
Initiated in 1992 by the Haute-Vienne Council. It opened its door to the public in 1999 as a centre for the memory of Oradour-sur-Glane.
