Dating from 70 bc, pamplona has thousands of years of history and with it many examples of architecture and city planning through the centuries.

With the 16th century wall as an orientation point, you will be able to see the lovely parks, architecture and monuments of the old city, while appreciating the new.

The city was made famous by the books of Hemmingway. Plaza de Castillo is no longer a place for bullfights of the 19th Century, but has become a pleasant square where you can sit at a cafe in the heart of the town.

The bullring at Plaza Del Toros still exists and is a centre of activity especially during the festival of San Fermin, a spectacular event that leads thousands of tourists to Pamplona each July to witness and participate in the hazardous running of the bulls. During the following week, Pamplona is the scene of an enormous party, with dancing and singing and drinking - it is certainly the most exciting week of all the year.

In the Barrio de San Juan you will find a ambience at a later hour, especially Avenida de Bayona and surroundings: here are cafes, english pubs, traditional bars, locals with live-music of all styles - from Classical and Jazz to Techno - and discotheques

Navarres varied landscape offers a large choice in fresh local produce - and some local specialities such as fish in a garlic sauce - Ajoarriero - and the good wines do navarra.

The surrounding rural areas are worth visiting too and, of course, there is the possibility of a day trip to France. See Biarritz & St Jean Pied de Port
