The Skye Serpentarium was opened in 1991 by Catherine and Alex Shearer as an exhibition and educational centre. Since opening, they have been featured on bbc, scottish & Grampian television and have won several awards. Catherine is an experienced herpetologist and has helped rescue over 500 abandoned or rescued reptiles and amphibians. There are over 50 animals on display from White's Tree Frogs to Large Green Iguanas. Catherine and Alex or an experienced member of staff is always in attendance and frequent snake handling sessions are held. Sponsorship is encouraged for the rescued animals. Toys, gifts and some refreshments are also available.
The Skye Sepentarium is located just before Broadford Bay, beside the main road from Kyleakin to Broadford (leading on to Portree). A free car & coach park is provided and coach parties or groups are also welcome by prior arrangement.
This is a great place to visit for all the family.
