The Old Mill Large Holiday Cottage in the Cotswolds Large group Family friendly Pet/Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage in Oakridge Lynch, Gloucestershire, England

The Old Mill in the Cotswolds is a marvellous holiday cottage for groups of people to gather together. It sleeps up to 16 in 6 bedrooms with 5 bathrooms, 3 sitting rooms, a really well equipped kitchen and a dining room

Welcome to our Large Pet Friendly Holiday Cottage in the Cotswolds

One little guest likened The Old Mill to Hogwarts because of its rambling layout.  Another little guest said that if she were the queen she would buy it.  But its not just children who love the atmosphere of this beautiful period property.  Visitors of all ages complement us on the comfortable surroundings and the way in which the house is presented in a very personal style.  This is not your average bland holiday rental.  This is more of a beloved home that is lent to friends.  The arrangement of the rooms makes the house particularly suitable for groups of people who can either come together or seek out quiet spots within the generous living accommodation.  For those who like to cook, the kitchen is well equipped with all the appliances and paraphernalia to make mass catering a joy rather than a chore but, if you want to relax and enjoy a special treat our chef and her team can cook up a storm for you.

There is plenty to do inside and outside.  We supply books, dvds, a flat screen television, and some board games to amuse you indoors.  Outside there is a bbq for the summer months and plenty of garden furniture.

The village is a delightful base for country pursuits and a good location to tour the Cotswolds from by car. Walking is a joy and all the normal country pursuits are on the doorstep. The village itself is blessed with a proper country pub and a little shop that sells all the basics and quite a few artisan items, too. Oakridge is equidistant from Stroud and Cirencester both very interesting and completely different Cotswold towns. Slightly further afield is Cheltenham, Queen of the Cotswolds and said to be one of the nicest places in the UK to live.

The house is very quirky. Its origins are in the late 1800s but it has been extended  by pretty much each generation since.  It now offers 6 bedrooms, 4 of which have ensuite bathrooms, and a further family bathroom and cloakroom. In addition there are two alcoves – curtained off areas which have a double  sofa beds enabling up to 16 to sleep.  Our beds are mostly zip and link so the house is suitable for single sex groups [we have lots of happy hen parties] and for groups of couples.  We use non allergic duvets and pillows with crisp white polycotton bedlinen and fluffy white towels.  The beds are made up to your specification ready for your arrival.

Given the house’s age, you will not be surprised to hear that it has plenty of period features amongst which are low beams and numerous little staircases.  It resembles a triangle on its side because the ground level is higher at one end that the other.  Enter the house via the kitchen and a level walk takes you to the sitting room which is at treetop height.  Because of this interesting configuration, it is not suitable for people in wheelchairs.  There is a stream, pond and little waterfall in the garden all of  which are very attractive but which mean that guests with children need to be particularly vigilant when they are outside.

Basics are provided – loo rolls, dishwasher tablets etc – but no food. The kitchen is well equipped with an induction hob, 2 ovens, masses of fridge space and Fisher and Paykel dishdrawers to keep pace with the washing up.  As well as the dining room adjacent where everyone can gather together to eat, there is a table in the kitchen so that the chef will not feel lonely.

We offer a standard weekend break from Friday after 3pm to Monday at 10am which includes linen, towels and utilities.  We are happy to take midweek breaks of up to 4 days.  To secure the cottage, you need to pay a 50% non refundable deposit with the balance and a refundable £150 damage deposit due 6 weeks prior to your arrival.  Because we are such a small business, we cannot take any provisional bookings and we do not make refunds for any reason whatsoever. Because of this we urge you to take out cancellation insurance.
