Visit the Abbey and Palace, birthplace of Charles I and resting place of Robert the Bruce.

Dunfermline has two theatres. The Alhambra puts on major West End touring shows like Grease and Rocky Horror, Agatha Christies The Mousetrap, Performers from all three have stayed in Carnegie Holiday Cottage. Carnegie Hall also has a full programme of entertainment.  If it should rain there are three museums to visit, cinemas, a huge newly refurbished swimming pool and sports complex, large indoor shopping centre and much more.

Lots of reasonably priced family restaurants within easy walking distance where you can eat and enjoy a bottle of wine without having to worry about driving back.

There is a corner shop literally just around the corner, and the usual Spar type supermarkets everywhere, Tescos and a 24 hour Asda at Halbeath.

Dunfermline is ideally suited for touring or walking the magnificent 150 km long Fife coastline dotted with attractive fishing villages, with wonderful names like Crail, Elie, Pittenweem, St Monance, Anstruther, Cellardyke. Inland take a tour of Falkland Palace, or Kellie Castle. Nearby ancient Culross is a must. Nip along to Loch Leven and in summer get the boat to Loch Leven Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned.  Or what about a boat trip across the Forth to May Island or under the Forth Bridge to Inchcolm Abbey with their colourful bird life. Spend a family day at the seaside at Aberdour or enjoy the fun of the summer fair at Burntisland.

Easy access by bus or train to the  lively cosmopolitan city of Edinburgh with its magnificent castle, museums, art galleries etc.. Just a bit further afield is Stirling with its equally fascinating castle, and Glasgow.

We are ideal for golfing holidays with about 50 courses within about an hours drive including of course St Andrews..

If you like visiting film locations there are lots in Fife. Scenes from Macbeth (1997) and The Bruce (1996)  were filmed in Dunfermline Abbey. The Thirty Nine Steps (1959) starring Kenneth Moore has a scene on the Forth Rail Bridge. Culross features as a film set again
