17th Century House in Jumilhac Family friendly Holiday Home for romantic breaks ideal for Adventure holidays in Jumilhac le Grand, Dordogne, France
This well presented house is just a few minutes’ walk away from the picturesque village of Jumilhac le Grand which has a restaurant, bar, boulangerie, and atm, along with other village shops. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Jumilhac is the perfect holiday destination for those who love French village life. The village itself is steeped in history and is the ideal place to stay whilst discovering the Limousin and Dordogne. In the village you will find a boulangerie where you can buy fresh croissants and bread daily, a restaurant , bar, butchers, hair salon, post office, tourist office, pharmacy, ATM and of course its own chateau (where you can even hold your wedding reception )! In fact you don't even have to leave the village if you don't want to.
Just a few minutes walk away from the centre of the village and nestled below the chateau of Jumilhac le Grand on a quiet winding road is the spacious village house which is extremely comfortable. The owners have maintained the properties character and features which provides the house with a French country cottage feel.
The house is accessed by a set of stairs and opens into the cosy sitting room with it's wood burning stove. This room has a flatscreen TV which has English Freeview channels. There is also a Blu-Ray dvd player and Wifi internet access.
Also on the ground floor is a games room with a full sized pool table and table football, ideal for children of all ages !! If you prefer something a bit quieter there are board games, books and DVD's.
At the back of the house is a large kitchen diner with French doors that lead out onto the large oak sleeper deck and rear enclosed garden. The perfect spot for eating "Al Fresco" or having that glass of wine at the end of a hot day. If you prefer not to cook then there is always the bbq . You may have to fight who BBQ's and who gets the sun loungers though.
For outdoor entertainment there is a table tennis table also in the enclosed garden.
Finally on the ground floor is a utility room which has a tumble drier and washing machine and the shower room with a large round sink and a rainforest shower.
The three bedrooms are upstairs and comprise of the:
Master bedroom which has a large king sized bed and overlooks the garden. The room also has a balcony and fabulous views.
The second bedroom has a double bed and it's own staircase that is accessed from the sitting room.
Bedroom three has two single beds in and is ideal for children.
The house bathroom has a fabulous freestanding roll top bath and lava stone surround. The perfect place to look at those beautiful French blue sky's and dream.
The house has not one but two wood burning stoves and heaters in every room so can be enjoyed in those cooler months.
If all the entertainment is still not enough then the owners also have a Playstation 2 and games that they will leave out on request. For their younger guests there is a Brico train set, Lego, cars with a play mat, as well as other toys and games. We think that there should be plenty here to occupy our young visitors.
If you can tear yourselves away from the lovely house then there is a public open air pool in Jumilhac that is heated in July and August. Next to this is a small skate park. 15 mins drive away in St Yrieix there is an indoor swimming pool which is open all year round and in summer the outdoor pool is open which has slides.
There are lakes nearby with sandy beaches. The nearest one is in Saint- Yrieix-la-Perche which is about 15 mins drive away. If you want to hire canoes and motorboats then Rouffiac which is about a 25 min drive away is a must.
The house itself is close to the river Isle where you can play boules, rock climb or fish.
On a Sunday morning in summer their are farmers markets in front of the chateau where stall sell fresh produce.
This location has something to suit everyone with so much to see and do in the village alone before you even venture out to explore the rest of the Dordogne and the Limosin you would be hard pressed to find another location that offers so much.
