The self-catering cottages are stone barn conversions in the grounds of Redmain house, which occupies a peaceful rural hamlet two miles from the pleasant market town of Cockermouth and ten miles from both Keswick and the Solway Coast with it's long sandy beaches and bracing walks. Windermere and Ambleside are less than an hours drive away.
Redmain House dates from the 1690’s and is a traditional Cumbrian long house with attached stone barns from which the holiday cottages have been converted to a very high standard, whilst retaining many original features in three acres of landscaped gardens.
Huddlestone Cottage has fully glazed entrance doors leading to a spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area. A log fire gives a warm focal point. There is a downstairs toilet and shower room. A pine staircase leads upstairs where there is a second full bathroom equipped with a corner bath. Two double bedrooms provide a king size bed and a twin bedded room to sleep four people.
Huddlestone Cottage has the benefit of a Widescreen TV, Freeview, DVD/CD player, Wifi wireless broadband access point and internet access cable (Cat 5 Network) for connection to your own computer equipment. Broadband is charged at an extra £15 per week or short break stay.
The Hayloft has its own private entrance door with stairway leading to a large open plan living room with kitchen on one side. There is a bedroom with a king size bed and room for a cot, if required. A separate bathroom provides a bath with a power shower over and a toilet. French doors look out directly to the gardens.
The Hayloft now has the benefit of a colour TV, Freeview, DVD/CD player, Wifi wireless broadband access point and internet access cable (Cat 5 Network) for connection to your own computer equipment. Broadband is charged at an extra £15 per week or short break stay.
All floors are polished pine with rugs and much of the original stone walls have been retained. The upstairs ceilings are lofted with exposed beams. The kitchens are fully equipped with microwave, refrigerator, electric cooker, hob and washer/dryer. There are colour televisions and radios provided in each lounge. All linen (but not facecloths), oil fired central heating and electricity are all included in the cost. There is also an iron and ironing board. Windows look out onto the gravel courtyard with gently rising ground behind, with a small deciduous wood. Some games and books are provided for all guests to enjoy. Picnic areas, large vegetable/flower cutting garden, wildlife area, small orchard and meadow with views across the Derwent valley towards Skiddaw and Grasmoor.
