Our Highland Holiday Cottage Facilities
The holiday cottage has been comfortably modernised while retaining its traditional character, including an open fire. Modern double glazing throughout ensures comfort even in the depths of winter. The self catering accommodation is divided into the main cottage which can sleep five and an annex (the Bothy) close by which sleeps three.
The sitting room has a multi-fuel stove/open fire, as well as an electric heater, and comfortable sofas and chairs providing a cosy place for passing those wet or midgy Skye evenings! There is a good selection of books, as well as cards, jigsaw puzzles and games. Please note that there is no television as the reception is poor, but some people have brought their own portables and have had some success (the most successful using an outside aerial, but beware as the winds can be fierce.) The cottage is WIFI broadband enabled and there is a telephone.
The well equipped kitchen provides everything that you need to cater for 8 people, except of course food and drink! There are full sets of crockery, glasses and cutlery, and a wide selection of pans and utensils. We provide tea towels and oven gloves.
In the holiday cottage there is one single bedroom downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs, one with a wash basin. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a double and single bed in it for flexibility, and the other has twin beds. Both upstairs bedrooms have recently been completely refurbished. The bothy has a bedroom with three single beds. All bedrooms have ample hanging and drawer space. Please note that linen is provided but towels are an extra. A cot can be provided on request.
There is a bathroom with bath, small hand basin, lavatory, heated towel rails and electric heater, together with a fantastic view. There is also a hand basin in the double bedroom.
In the bothy there is a shower room, with hand basin, chemical toilet, heated towel rail, electric heater and an automatic washer/dryer (it works best with liquid or micro-system detergents).
There is a large drying room with electric heater and clothes pulley rack.
Please note that towels are not provided, but bath mats are. All rooms have electric heaters with controllable time clocks and there is a storage radiator in the hall.
There is an open fire in the sitting room. We provide one free sack of coal and a little kindling to start you off on arrival. You can buy more in Portree and Broadford, or we can sell you extra sacks. Please note that electricity is NOT included in the rent - please see conditions of let for more details.
The cottage has a private water supply with a UV sterilisation and filtration plant. Hot water is provided by immersion heaters and controllable time clocks, and the shower heats its own water.
There is a telephone at the cottage for both incoming and outgoing calls, and broadband WIFI.Please note that mobile phone coverage can be patchy on Skye.
There is a garage attached to the bothy, recently refurbished with a new roof and doors.
Pets and dogs are welcome at our Highland Cottage.
Our Cottage Location on the Isle of Skye in the Highlands of Scotland
Our holiday cottage is located near Sligachan, in the centre of the Isle of Skye, in the West Highlands of Scotland. As you will see from our photo gallery above and on our website, the cottage is in a breath taking location, nestling under the Cuillin Hills. This is ideal cottage for walkers and climbers, or as a base for a family holiday exploring the mystery, beauty and history of Skye.
The Sligachan Hotel is about ½ a mile from the cottage, serving food and drink daily between end Feb and November. Food and other shopping is available at Portree, about 10 miles north and Broadford.
In addition to walking and climbing, there are many great things to do near the cottage, including the nearby sandy beaches at Glenbrittle, Fiscavaig and Talisker. Golf is available at a 9 hole course in Sconser about 3 miles away. For swimming - the burn by the cottage has some lovely pools, and the Sligachan river some larger ones. The sea is never far away, but if you long for chlorine and warmth then Portree has a public swimming pool. Fishing - in season river, loch and sea fishing are available locally (please ask us for details). There are also a great range of Boat Trips available from a number of places, including Broadford, Portree, and into Loch Coruisk from Elgol (highly recommended for those who don't want to brave the walk!)
