Welcome to our Holiday Cottages in Loch Melfort
Welcome to Ardenstur Cottages located on Loch Melfort, on the western seaboard of Scotland, the Ardenstur estate covers 150 acres and encompasses an idyllic headland and bay. Aside from the sea loch and its range of water activities, there are also some stunning hill walks, forest lansdcapes and plenty of fresh water lochs with fishing rights for visitors.
Nearby is MELFORT FARM, whose boundaries join ARDENSTUR. There are fresh water lochs in the hills, and also a private fresh water loch available only with our permission. There are many other fishing lochs in the area.
Nature abounds, with all types of animal life to be found, especially deer, otters and many types of bird. There are also many geological curiosities and mysteries, and abundant wild flowers and plants.
Our Holiday Cottages Facilities
There are three semi-detached cottages in Sheltered Elevated position with Sunny Aspect overlooking Loch Melfort & Hills. All three are in a row, each sleep 2 people. Each property has a living room / kitchen on the ground floor, and on the upper floor one property has a twin bedroom and bathroom, one has double bedroom and shower, and the final one has double bedroom and bathroom and shower. All furnishings are to a high standard with fitted carpets throughout and all have electric heating with a solid fuel fire. Permission should be sought before bringing animals. Parking is available.
Our Loch Melfort location
Loch Melfort is one of a series of many sea lochs along the western seaboard of Scotland. It has safe sailing waters with direct access to the Firth of Lorn, which itself leads into the coaster and ferry ports of OBAN, FORT WILLIAM, TOBERMORY etc. The area is within easy motoring or sailing distance of many well known Scottish historical and scenic places. Visits are suggested to OBAN, IONA, MULL, CRINAN CANAL, FORT WILLIAM, THE TROSSACHS, GLEN COE. The islands of COLONSAY, TIREE and COLL, are easy trips by the islands steamer from OBAN.
Nearer at hand are interesting walks, some strenuous, some easy. Following the shoreline or ascending the hills. Everywhere there is natural beauty and wildlife. Angling in the many Hill lochs, tucked away in the surrounding Hills is possible; however permission and licences must be sought. The Loch is suitable for your own water activities - windsurfing - sailing - canoeing - sub aqua and water skiing. Pony trekking and Instruction is also available in the area.
The views of the Melfort area from sea level are beautiful but from the top of the Melfort Hills they are spectacular. In clear weather you can see as far east as Ben More above Crianlarich, south nearly as far as Rathlin Island off Northern Ireland and equally far to the north and west. Even in poorer weather there are wonderful views of the Sound of Jura, the Firth of Lorne, the Sound of Mull and a myriad of islands in between.
Take this opportunity to enjoy this stunning panorama and with the hope of seeing some of the wildlife of the Melfort Hills which includes Red and Roe Deer, Wild Cats, Foxes, Arctic Hare and a wide variety of bird life.
