Welcome to our Castle between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales
When the castle was commissioned in 1837 by "a gentleman of leisure & considerable means", his vision was of a retreat where he could entertain his friends in a style reminiscent of a medieval banquet. Today, Simon & Wendy and their two children Oliver & Emily, run the castle in a modern informal style - it is a family home happiest when it is full. No formal reception desk but rather a collection of comfy leather chairs around a roaring fire. Anything goes at Augill, anything but hushed tones and false formality.
Come by yourself for a few days R&R, or if you need a country house big enough for all your friends or family, Augill is the perfect venue for your very own house party. Whatever the event, Augill can be exclusively yours. Augill is licensed to hold civil marriage & partnership ceremonies and has been described as one of the country's most romantic houses. The castle sleeps up to 22 adults & 6 children in 11 bedrooms, the dining room can accommodate up to 46 and up to 60 for less formal celebrations. There is no set formula : each day at Augill is as unique as the setting itself.
