Welcome to The Blackaddie House Hotel, on the outskirts of the village of Sanquhar, amidst the rolling hills of Southwest Scotland, and on the route of the Southern Upland Way. Scotland harbours many hidden treasures, but perhaps none so precious as Sanquhar’s Blackaddie Hotel. This beautifully grand yet comfortable 16th-Century country house hotel is set in its own gardens on the banks of the River Nith, and the restaurant within is home to one of Britain’s most celebrated chefs, Ian McAndrew.
With spectacular views over the river Nith, the hotel and this part of Scotland is perfect for a Family Holiday, the Outdoor Enthusiast, Business Meetings, Business Travellers, Romantic Breaks, Weddings and Family Celebrations. Pets and dogs are also most welcome at our Scottish Hotel.
Our Hotel Accommodation
There are nine comfortable bedrooms within the hotel, as well as three River Suites within the grounds. We offer free wireless broadband throughout the hotel so you can keep up to date and find thing to do when you are away. The hotel is also pet friendly so there is no need to leave your faithful companion behind when you go away. The surrounding area has some fantastic walking for those with or without their dog.
Our Restaurant
Ian has enjoyed a long and successful career – as a Michelin star holder for many years, author of three cookery books and listed in Kit Chapman’s Great British Chefs. His work is recognised as ‘a mix of art, instinct and meticulous cooking practice’, which has spanned three decades and won him the top accolades available in his profession. It is no surprise then that, the awards are already flowing. They have achieved ‘Gold Plate’ status for dining from Hotel Review Scotland, a silver award from Eat Scotland, a five-star excellence status from Food Review Scotland, and double triumph at the recent Scottish Hotel Awards, where Ian hauled in a ‘Chef Médailles d’Or for Dinner Excellence’ and the ‘Dinner Quality and Value Award’. It is unusual to find fine dining and good value served up at the same restaurant, but the Blackaddie genuinely offers a mouth-watering experience without the eye-watering bill. Ian is meticulous in his delivery of the overall package and committed to providing a top-quality dining experience for his customers.
In the comfortable and intimate dining room there is seating for 20, and diners can enjoy the quiet of their surroundings overlooking the magnificent gardens and be spoiled by professional, friendly staff while savouring some of the most imaginative and inspirational food in Scotland.
Our stunning location in Scotland
The Hotel is a stunning local near Sanquhar, in Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland. Being on the banks of the river Nith one of Scotland’s top 10 salmon rivers fishermen can often be found in the comfortable bar comparing the days catch or lack of it! Fishing can be arranged either on the local club water or on a number of private beats. Trout fishermen too are catered for, again on the river or a number of private lochs locally.
The Hotel has beautiful gardens, and Fishing, Mountain Biking, Shooting, Walking and hiking, are all available locally – you can even go Gold Panning! We also run a highly successful Cookery School.
