Welcome to our unique Lake District Holiday Cottage
Welcome to Caudale Beck Holiday Cottage. The cottage offers guests unique Lake District self-catering accommodation in a majestic rural setting on the Hartsop Hall estate, a working Lake Land hill farm. The cottage offers self catering holiday accommodation for 6 people with seclusion and privacy, and yet with easy access to the rest of the Lake District. This cottage could have been built with the term “walks from the door” in mind and with Helvellyn and the like within striding distance the walks don’t get much better than this!
The Holiday Cottage
Caudale Beck Holiday Cottage was built in 1699. It is a Grade II listed traditional Lakeland farmhouse nestling in seclusion at the end of its own driveway, about 300 yards from the Kirkstone Pass road. The farmhouse is named after the nearby beck which comes tumbling down from Caudale Moor, and is a delight to sit by on warm afternoons. The cottage has vast stone walls, lots of beams and interesting features, including a spice cupboard by the fireplace in the lounge. It now provides excellent self catering holiday accommodation for six people in an unrivalled Lake District location.
It is a very spacious property, where the provision of modern creature comforts has not been allowed to interfere with its traditional features and character appeal.
The furnishings throughout are traditional antique oak and pine, in keeping with the character of this farmhouse. Heating is by the Rayburn, storage radiators, panel heaters and the open fire, for which fuel is provided.
Outside the farmhouse is a small paved area for sitting out or barbecues (BBQ not provided), and beyond that, plenty of hard standing for car parking. The adjacent barns are in use, and house cattle during the winter months. This is the real country - no mobile phone reception!
The cottage sleeps 6. Beds are made up with duvets and all bed-linen for your stay is provided. Please note that Towels are NOT provided, so don’t forget to bring them! A cot and high chair can be made available; please request at the time of booking (please bring your own bedding for the cot).
All the fuel, oil heating, electricity, coal for the open fires is provided for guests and is included in the cost of your holiday rental. Please note that this holiday cottage is a 'NO SMOKING' property.
Dog Friendly Cottage
Dogs may be allowed, subject to certain restrictions; They are restricted to a maximum of 2 at the discretion of the farmer, subject to certain conditions and to the satisfactory completion by their owner of a declaration form. Owners wishing to bring a dog must speak personally to the Booking Agents, who will advise and issue the necessary form, to be returned with the Cottage Booking Form and relevant fee. Please note dogs must not be left unattended in the property AT ANY TIME, nor allowed to sit or sleep on the furniture. We regret we are unable to accommodate cats at the cottage.
Our Cottage Location – Off the beaten track in the heart of the Lake District
Hartsop Hall is a 16th Century Grade I listed building owned by the National Trust. It is a traditional Lakeland working hill farm of some 3000 acres and offers you a unique opportunity to see a way of life which is fast disappearing. There are many well-marked footpaths criss-crossing the land, leading up to the fells in all directions, and for more level terrain, an old bridlepath past the Hall to Brotherswater.
As it is a working farm guests are kindly reminded to keep their children and dogs under control, especially during lambing season (April to late May).
There is a campsite shop for basics just a short walk across the fields. There is a post office, off-licence, general stores and other shops in Patterdale and Glenridding, about 2.5 miles away.
The nearest pub is the Brotherswater Inn, ½ mile away; the best restaurant-pub nearby is the Queen’s Head at Troutbeck, on the Windermere side of the Kirkstone Pass.
The cottage is located in the midst of some of the most majestic fells in the Lake District, at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass, close to Brothers Water and Ullswater. There are a host of wonderful walks from the door of your holiday cottage including Dove Crag, Caiston Glen, Fairfield , St Sunday Crag, the Helvellyn range, Stony Cove Pike and High Street, to name a few. More gentle walks follow the ancient bridlepath down past Brothers Water and on through Patterdale to Ullswater.
Other local attractions and things to do can be found on our website and on the map below.
