Welcome to Croft House Holiday Cottages
We offer 4 properties – all located at Applethwaite which nestles at the foot of Skiddaw, just one mile from Keswick, Cumbria in the heart of the Lake District National Park. All four properties are VisitBritain 4 stars and accommodate between 2 and 6 people. We are really sorry however that the properties cannot accommodate pets.
Applethwaite is a quiet hamlet, little changed over the years. It is known to fell-walkers as the main starting point for the ascent of Skiddaw. There are three restaurants within walking distance. Red squirrels can often be seen in the wooden slopes of Skiddaw along the lane linking Applethwaite and Millbeck.
There are many footpaths on the doorstep and also fell walks up Skiddaw (by easy and hard routes!) Latrigg and Dodd. Derwentwater is just a five minute drive away and there are 6 major lakes nearby.
Our Cottages
Croft Corner
Sleeps 2 ( double bedroom)
This ground floor apartment is located at Croft House, a handsome Victorian country house surrounded by farmland on the outskirts of Applethwaite. It has a kitchen, lounge/dining room, double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. It also has magnificent views to Skiddaw and Latrigg.
Croftside
Sleeps 4 (double bedroom and twin bedroom)
This property is also located at Croft House. It has extensive views to the north-western and Borrowdale fells, Latrigg and Skiddaw. It is arranged on three levels with the lounge and kitchen/dining room on the first floor to take full advantage of the outstanding views. The double bedroom and shower room are on the ground floor and the twin bedroom and bathroom are on the top floor.
Both Croft Corner and Croftside have central heating, wifi, their own gardens and the use of a separate laundry room with drying facilities for walking gear. There is a car park: 1 parking space for Croft Corner and 2 for Croftside. In addition there is a children’s play area.
Upper House
Sleeps 6 (double bedroom and two twin bedrooms)
Upper House has extensive, panoramic views right down to Derwentwater encircled by the Borrowdale fells. The kitchen and beamed, galleried lounge/dining area together with the bathroom, shower room, cloakroom and double bedroom are all on the ground floor. The two twin bedrooms are on the first floor reached from the gallery over the lounge.
Lower House
Sleeps 4 (double and two single bedrooms)
This property has accommodation all on one level. It comprises of the kitchen/lounge/dining area, double bedroom, two single bedrooms, bathroom and cloakroom. It has the same magnificent views as Upper House.
The above 2 properties make up one big building called Lords Seat which is located in Applethwaite village itself. They share a garden which is reached by steps from the car parking area (2 parking spaces for each property). The garden has a private seating area for each property – a slate paved terrace for Lower House and a raised deck for Upper House. The steps to the garden also lead to Lower House which is beneath Upper House. Both properties have a coal-burning stove – ideal for winter evenings.Both Upper House and Lower House have wifi.
All our rental rates are fully inclusive of heating, electricity, bedlinen, towels, cot and high chair. All the properties have garden furniture and a barbecue. We provide both summer and winter duvets for your comfort.
Location Details
The four properties at Croft House Holiday are all at Applethwaite just over one mile outside Keswick in the centre of the Lake District National Park. Derwentwater is just a few miles away. The cottages have peaceful settings but have the facilities of Keswick on hand. The location makes an ideal base to explore the Borrowdale, Bassenthwaite and Newlands valleys as well as Grasmere – 14 miles away and Ambleside 18 miles away.
We are always very pleased to advise you of the facilities in the area, walking routes, places to eat and tea shops with good cakes!
