Welcome to Fawcett Mill, our large self catering house in Cumbria, the Lake District. The holiday cottage is located near Orton, midway between Penrith and Kendal in Cumbria, on the eastern edge of the Lake District national park. It is a luxurious holiday cottage offering high quality self catering accommodation for up to 16  + 4 people.

The holiday cottage overlooks the quiet, unspoilt Howgill Mountains, and is hidden in its own tranquil valley, with a stream running from an adjacent waterfall through 7 acres of meadowland. However, being just 2 miles from the M6 motorway the house is easily accessible and gives good access to the rest of Cumbria and the Lake District to the west, and down to the Yorkshire Dales in the east.

The cottage was built in 1794 as the mill owner's house, and is furnished in comfortable country style, with oak beams and open hearths throughout. It is equipped to a very high standard with full gas central heating and fitted carpets. Outside, as well as barbecue areas, there are extensive terraces and patios bordering the stream. Fawcett Mill provides self catering with 3 double bedrooms [2 with 4 poster beds], 4 twin bedrooms (1 with an additional double bunkbed) and a double futon and double settee bed in the lounge (+cots), giving a total capacity of 20.

The cottage has a dining/living room with Victorian range. There is a double futon sofa bed and double settee sofa bed in the upper lounge, which also has TV, video and radio. There are 2 kitchens (one with a Rayburn cooker), a bathroom and a shower room, and there is access through the kitchen to the terraces and barbecue area.   

The ground floor lounge of the house has TV, video, radio and log fire; shower room, kitchen, sauna and sunbed. The front door through the porch leads onto the terraces overlooking the stream.

Fawcett Mill is an idyllic holiday cottage, and provides the perfect gathering place for a large family or large group of friends. It is also perfect for reunions, get togethers, Christmas/New Year/Easter celebrations, or a relaxing break away from it all. Summer or winter the environment and scenery is stunning.

The cottage is in an ideal location for hill walkers, with easy access to the Howgill mountains and fells. The Coast to Coast Walk passes through our local village of Orton where "The George" is a popular stopping off point, being mid-way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks. The village also has a chocolate factory and tearoom. The network of small country lanes and villages is popular with cyclists. Its location mid way between Penrith and Kendal also means that all the main Lake District lakes and fells are easily accessible.
