The Glenisle Hotel and Restaurant is often said to be set in the most beautiful location of any hotel on the Isle of Arran. Nestled in the charming village of Lamlash the hotel looks across Lamlash Bay toward the Holy Isle which rises 1,000 feet out of the sea. To the side of the hotel and also facing the sea is the hotel’s historic walled garden which creates an oasis of calm around the hotel.
No one knows when the hotel was built but it is probably the second oldest hotel on the island and most likely dates from the middle of the nineteenth century. The entire hotel was refurbished in 2008 and guests now comment on the freshness of the rooms and the sense of relaxation and charm.
The inspiration for the interior redesign has been Arran itself. The colours reflect the heather of the hills, the grey of driftwood and the shifting colours of the sea. In this characterful, old building every bedroom is different; each has a different colour scheme, some have gabled windows, some look over our walled garden and some look directly across the sea to the Holy Isle.
The Glenisle Restaurant is a favourite of locals and visitors alike because of its excellent food and friendly, relaxed ambiance. The menu changes with the seasons and the chefs delight in producing mouth-watering dishes from the produce of the region as it becomes available.
Once you have experienced Arran from the comfort of the Glenisle Hotel you might find yourself, like so many others, coming back year after year for a regular break which both relaxes and revitalises.
