Welcome to our self catering gite in Normandy
This is a charming converted cowshed, converted to a very high standard. It is perfectly placed for all the World War II landing beaches and museums to the North-East, and Mont St Michel to the South West. It is equi-distant from Cherbourg, Caen and St Malo, the three main ferry ports. From Calais or airports (Paris, Rennes, Dinard, Cherbourg, Caen) it is a very easy drive, almost entirely motorway until you reach our rural part of Normandy. Even here the main roads are Roman straight ones, with very little traffic.
This is a gite for a couple: one double bedroom with ensuite shower room (large shower area). The living area contains comfortable seating and separate dining table, a modern kitchen with combined conventional oven/ microwave/ grill, gas hob. fridge with freezer compartment, TV, DVD player, portable radio plus other electrical appliances such as toaster, hairdryer, iron. We are very close to Jersey, so TV and radio receive both French and UK broadcasts. The gite has its own Wi-fi router with excellent quality broadband internet access. Washing-machine and tumble-dryer are not in the gite itself but easily accessible.
Most people come to visit the huge number of attractions outlined above, if one can so describe the extremely moving monuments to the heroism of World War II soldiers from the UK, USA and Canada. For others, the long sandy beaches 20 minutes' drive away are a greater lure. Everybody delights in the local green and hilly countryside, the village markets, the extremely friendly people, but above all the peace and quiet. La Dehayrie sits almost at the end of an unmarked country lane, so there is no through traffic. You will hear nothing but birdsong (even the cows are extremely quiet), though you may be startled by the occasional passing tractor.
