Portsonachan Hotel is a stunning Victorian Hotel set in its own ground & garden of around 100 acres on the banks of loch Awe in Argyll. There is on offer en-suite Hotel rooms, Loch side suites and self catering Lodges and apartments, all set in the stunning estate grounds. The Hotel also offers both fine dining in the Cruachan Room and bar meals served all day in the panoramic conservatory, and the cuisine is of a local nature but with a view to catering for international taste. The area is rich with wildlife, as are the actual grounds, and from many of the rooms you can observe the natural behaviour and habitat of the local animals, some of which are considered rare. There are many enjoyable things to do and see in the area too, as there are excellent road links, so you can easily access all the urban areas also.
Our Hotel and Holiday Lodges Accommodation and Features
Portsonachan Hotel has nineteen en-suite bedrooms in total, with a mixture of family, double and twin rooms available. There are five superior rooms that directly overlook the beautiful Loch Awe and the Scottish countryside. All hotel room rates are bed and breakfast inclusive, for a full Scottish Breakfast for two adults served in the Loch side conservatory. It is possible for our staff to put an extra cot or small bed in your room for a child. Portsonachan hotel has an excellent friendly bar, which is well stocked and available to both residents and non residents. The 'Captain's Bar' has over 30 Highland whiskies and other drinks to suit all tastes, and we also offer bar meals. There is also a guest lounge, which has several comfortable sofas and a large open fire, and where you can relax and socialise with a glass of whisky for example. Each room is en suite, sleeps two/three people and has a TV and coffee making facilities. Of our fantastic holiday lodges, our largest lodge is a three-bedroom lodge, which can sleep eight guests in one double room, one single room and one room that can have either double full size bunk beds or a single bed. The double room has a large double bed, built in wardrobe, and freestanding dresser table, and the twin room has two large single beds, wardrobe, and freestanding dresser table. There is a large lounge with TV, DVD player and HiFi, and there is also a sauna and exercise room. There is a further sofa bed that sleeps two in the lounge, and a fully fitted kitchen/dining area, with all modern appliances, and a large dining table. Our two bedroom lodges are much the same as the three bedroom ones, except they sleep six, have two double rooms, one with en-suite, and have excellent elevated views out to the loch and the mountains. We also have a selection of one-bedroom lodges, which can sleep up to four, including two people on the pull out sofa bed in the lounge area.

Situated on the banks of Loch Awe in the Scottish Highlands, there is plenty to see and do in the area around our Self Catering Holiday Lodges and Hotel. The Loch lends itself to all sorts of water sports including wind surfing, yachting, canoeing and water skiing. There is very little traffic on the Loch, which makes all these activities far more enjoyable, as Loch Awe is an unspoilt environment, steeped in rugged beauty. 6 miles from the hotel is a stunning forest drive, which takes you from one valley over the top of the hills down in to Loch Awe Valley. The views from the top are breathtaking, and you can see far into the distance. A viewing wildlife hide, stocked with binoculars and note pads, overlooking Loch Sidheannach, can be found half way round the drive. The small Loch packed with comings and goings of all sorts of creatures, from Otters to Golden Eagles and Ospreys to Damselflies. Portsonachan Hotel provides mountain bike hire. It is a superb way to take advantage of the stunning countryside and enjoy some healthy exercise. The nearest large town, Oban, is the meeting place between land and sea. A perfect, sheltered harbour makes it the principal seaport for the Isles and the capital of the West Highlands. Here you can find many different shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés, among other things. There are various other attractions in the area, such as the Glen Coe Mountain Resort for skiing, Kingarth Trekking Centre, Bowmore distillery, Fingals Cave, and Inverary Castle, among others.
