Welcome to our Sauvegrain gite and Sauvegrain picker's house in the Loire Valley: self catering or including breakfast and supper services
Our properties have been renovated since 2004 turning what were ruins into a comfortable detached self catering studio (gite) and a guest house. Sauvegrain is the name of our hameau, located peacefully at private and enclosed grounds, comprising 5 acres of land. There are two above ground swimming pools for your exclusive use and pets are welcome on the premises.
Sauvegrain gîte (max. 4 sleeps)
Our gîte (studio) is a wooden beam construction which dates from the 15th century. It has two storeys and offers plenty of space (total indoor 60m2). On the ground floor is the fully equipped kitchenette and living room which is cosily furnished with armchairs, a small dining table, hifi/DVD equipment, some games, magazines and such. On the First floor there is the bathroom (shower, toilet and washbasin) and one bedroom. The bedroom has a double divan bed (1.60x2m) and a single bed (0.8x1.9m). In the living room is a bed bank (1.4x1.9m) available. Outside you have your own terrace with dinner table, BBQ, garden (15x15m) with sun beds, private parking and entrance. In the summer (June-September) your above ground swimming pool (5m round, 1m deep) will be ready for a dip.
Sauvegrain picker's house (max. 4 sleeps)
In a very private location on the far end side of the grounds, stands a renovated and cosy stone (picker’s) house with 75 m2 living space, including a covered veranda. The house is made from rough sand-lime brick. It is tastefully furnished with a simple but fully equipped kitchen corner, lounge beds corner (2 times 0.9x2m), easy chairs, Hi-fi, DVD player and a round dining table. Upstairs, there is a comfortable double bed (1.6x2m) and space to hang your clothes. There is a bathroom with a shower, toilet and washbasin. The house has its own lavendel lane and under the veranda you have a large dining table, BBQ and sun beds. This type of medieval picker’s house is a rarity by now. This one was renovated in 2006 and converted into a holiday home in 2008 and 2009.
Have breakfast in the morning sun and enjoy the beautiful sunsets in the evening. This location offers a lot of privacy, with its own driveway lined with lavender bushes, and parking space next to the house. Around the raised knoll is a large lawn bordering on an orchard, and a large above ground pool (6x3 and 1.2 m deep) ready for a dip in the summer. All for your private use!
The Sauvegrain domaine is the ideal place to start castle, garden and cave tours.
Our holiday accommodation can be rented on a self catered basis per week (arrival on Saturday or Sunday) or on chambre d’hotes basis per night. The deposit is due upon arrival. Further payment details will be confirmed with your booking confirmation! For larger groups, please contact us. You may want to include two other houses at our domaine which adds up the total amount of sleeps to a maximum of 24.
Our Loire Valley location
Sauvegrain is located in the area of Indre-et-Loire in the Centre region of France. Sauvegrain is 2.5 km away from the historic and vibrant town of Chinon. This town is situated on the banks of the River Vienne. Chinon Castle sits high on the hill and is a ideal place to explore and learn about French ( and English!) history. The town has many cosy terraced cafes, restaurants to eat and drink in, cute shops, brocantes, wineries and cultural events. We are just an hour away from Poitiers, Tours, Villandry, Amboise and Angers and half an hour from Saumur, Bourgeuil, Richelieu, L'ile Bouchard and many other typical French places you must see.
Surroundings
While staying at our accommodation you can rent the 2CV convertible of your choice or use our bicycles to explore the surroundings. The area around Chinon has large areas of woodlands, many rivers, beautiful hillsides full of flowers and vines, and enchanting castles. You will be able to take in some amazing views and scenery in the area. The castles and gardens you may want to put on your list are: Chateau Chinon, Usse, Villandry, Saumur, Amboise, Montsoreau and Elsie's rose garden in Chinon. Sporties may like to cycle, mountainbike, play tennis, fish, kanoo, walk, jog, kart-go, golf or go horse back riding. You may also like to picknick on one of the sand beaches and swim in the river Vienne 2km from our premises.
Plenty of super markets and bakeries can be reached by bicycle (2.5km) or car (<5km). Fresh markets in Chinon on Saturday, Sunday and Thursday (the largest!) mornings.
