Where to eat

Boat hire is available from the bridge car park during the summer months. There is also a leisure cruise of the lake run from the Ballina shore.
The sights in the area
Sheltered by the hills of Slieve Bernagh on one side and those of the Arra mountains in Tipperary. Killaloe lies where the river Shannon resumes it's course out of the neck of Lough Derg. A narrow 13 arched stone bridge leads from Killaloe in Clare to Ballina, County Tipperary. The towns have been awarded Heritage Town status because of their rich historical past.
Some background
The royal palace of the High King, Brian Boru (926-1014) a founder of the O'Brien clan and one of the greatest kings of Ireland is just one of the sites to testify to the national importance of Killaloe. At the southern end of Killaloe, close to the shannon, stands the restored 13 century St. Flannan's Cathedral. Also in the grounds of the cathedral lies St. Flannan's Oratory. In the grounds of the Catholic church lies St. Lua's Oratory having been rescued from an island which was submerged by the Shannon's Hydroelectric scheme. Other interesting sights to see are the pier head, the canal and the heritage centre.
