Welcome to the Oast House, Hailsham
A “fairy tale” house, set in the extensive grounds of a Tudor Manor House (Pekes Manor). This self catering cottage is located in Golden Cross, near Hailsham in the beautiful East Sussex countryside.
It consists of two large (17ft diameter) round towers, which were originally used for drying hops for beer making during the late 19th century. The house is up a driveway of about 350 yards, which makes it very peaceful and safe for children. Visitors have the use of part of the grounds including a large lawn area at the back. They also have shared use of the hard macadam style tennis court and exotic swimming pool. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead when outside the house.
The Oast house cottage has exclusive use of a spa bath Jacuzzi, a “State of the art” Arctic spa bath which seats 4 to 6 people. The temperature is constantly maintained at 35C so it’s always ready to use.
In brief the self catering holiday accommodation comprises an entrance hall, with coat cupboard, with long mirror inside, circular dining room with two curved tables fitting the rounds, and a circular table in the centre (16 to 20 people can be seated at these tables), circular living room with light parquet floor and attractive working fireplace. There is a door out onto the patio and garden. The kitchen is a delightful “country style” kitchen, with green tiled floor and light oak fitted units either side, and a magnificent light oak table that can seat 12. There is ample kitchen equipment for 12 people. Outside the back door is a large built-in barbecue. There is a ground floor shower room, with good mixer shower and wash basin. There is also a separate cloakroom with toilet and wash basin.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, 2 enormous (17’diameter) circular rooms, one with magnificent four-poster bed (4’6”), and the other a “family room”, with one 4’6” double bed and two 3’ single beds. The third bedroom has 3’ twin beds plus a 2’6” divan. The final bedroom has one 3’6” bed. The bathroom is normal with wash basin, shaver point, toilet and bath. There is also another cloakroom with wash basin and W.C. There is one extra folding bed available on this floor. Hair dryer, iron, radios and usually an extra T.V. are all provided.
Rental includes oil to a limit of £80 p.w. and all household equipment: use of our indoor heated swimming pool and your own private Jacuzzi. Please note rental does NOT include ELECTRICITY (meters are read on arrival and upon departure) or cleaning on departure (see booking form).
Logs are available in the woodshed near the house at £2 per sack - you just pay if you use them. A cot is available on request, plus high chair if required. No extra charge. Deposit re-breakage and extras normally about £100 per week/end (for terms see booking form).
We have four other self-catering cottages sleeping up to 16 people in comfort, more if you don’t mind being squashed! They centre on the Edwardian Wing of the Manor House.
The Wing only has one big double bedroom, and three divan beds in the large living areas and is really suitable for two to four people for sleeping.
Tudor View is a two bedroom cottage with bed settee in the lounge, seven people maximum.
Gate Cottage also has two bedrooms with downstairs bed settee sleeping maximum six people.
Mounts View is a three bedroom cottage sleeping eight at the most.
All are within one hundred yards of each other and have use of all the facilities. They can of course all be rented individually as required.
