Welcome to our Lake District Holiday Cottage
Welcome to the Temperance Hall, our Holiday cottage in the Lake District. This cottage is in the quiet, pretty village of Hesket Newmarket, near Caldbeck in the Northern Fells of the Lake District National Park, about twelve miles north of Keswick. It provides quality self catering holiday accommodation for 6 people, and is an ideal holiday let for families and friends looking for a good base to explore the Lake District.
Our Lake District Cottage Facilities
The Temperance Hall is a listed building probably at least two hundred years old. In the nineteenth century it was a liquor store for one of the many pubs that were in the village at that time. In 1984 it was converted for residential use and we have improved the holiday cottage over the years. It now provides comfortable self catering for six adults in 3 bedrooms, and is heated throughout. There is a bathroom and a shower room.
In summary the self catering accommodation includes:
Downstairs
· A large breakfast / living room with rugs on the flagstone floor.
· A fitted well equipped kitchen.
· A small sitting room, the “Snug”, with a colour TV with integral video and a comprehensive selection of guides, reference maps and books, and other literature.
· A bedroom with twin beds and an adjacent bathroom with W.C. and wash basin.
Upstairs
· A large, comfortable lounge with views across to Hesket Hall. This has a colour TV and Hi-Fi and a selection of games for rainy days. At one end of the lounge is a dining table and chairs and in the dresser are some toys for younger children.
· Two bedrooms, a double and a twin. Duvets and pillows are provided for all the beds. All you need to bring are sheets, duvet covers, pillow slips, towels and tea-towels. There are clock radios in all three bedrooms.
· A shower room, with a W.C. and wash basin. Both the shower room and bathroom have heated towel-rails and shaver sockets. Hot water is supplied by an immersion heater. A hair-dryer is provided.
There are storage heaters in all rooms. The two main rooms also have Calor gas heaters and the Snug has an electric fire, all of which help to keep the cottage warm even in winter. The cost of heating and hot water is included in the rent.
Four picnic chairs are left at the cottage for tenants to borrow during their stay. Although there is no garden, the cottage is very close to the village green where there is also a children’s playground.
There is room in front of the cottage to park for loading and unloading and car parking is available in a small parking bay just round the corner.
Our Lake District Location
The holiday cottage is located in the beautiful Lakeland village of Hesket Newmarket, near Caldbeck in the Northern Fells on the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. It is just ten miles from the M6 and is about twelve miles from each of Keswick, Penrith and Carlisle.
The village is the heart of John Peel country, where the Caldbeck fells offer plenty of good local walking. Hesket Newmarket is set around the village green and the Temperance Hall lies at the top of the village street. The village has a shop, post office, popular pub, and a local guest house that also offers meals.
The cottage is an ideal base for walking in the Lake District, with the nearest popular fells being Blencathra and Skiddaw - but High Pike, Carrock Fell, Knott and other local fells also offer excellent walking for the discerning visitor.
More Information
We do our best to ensure the cottage is welcoming and well-maintained but we do ask our guests to respect what has become our much-loved second home in this very friendly village.
Bookings typically run Saturday to Saturday. Please note that smoking is not allowed in the cottage, and we are sorry but the cottage is unsuitable for pets. Visitors are asked to leave the Temperance Hall clean and tidy for the next guests.
