A Brief History
Victoria House (latterly Mount) was built in 1847 as a private dwelling. In 1847, it became a school taking in boarders and day pupils. In 1885 it became part of Rayners Temperance Hotel . It was sold for £600 in 1919 and Rayners Hotel sold for £1205.
Victoria House then became a private dwelling again. In April 1944 a bomb fell on the land between Albert Street and Victoria Street damaging several buildings including Victoria Mount. The former Rayners Hotel was demolished.
Victoria Mount became a guesthouse in the 1970s until the turn of the 21st Century when it became a private residence again.
June 2009 sees Victoria Mount once again becoming a guest house.
