Our Devon Holiday Cottage Location
Watermill Cottages are in an AONB just a mile inland from the National Nature Reserve at Slapton Ley - our river feeds it - and Slapton Sands, Start Bay and the stunning South Hams coast & Coastal Path. Perfect for relaxing and revitalising away from life's stresses and strains. Fifteen beaches within 30 minutes' drive, most dog-friendly. Our valley is a peaceful haven of flowers, woodland, wetlands and wildlife with walks from your cottage door, whilst nearby are various holiday attractions including art and craft galleries, lake and sea fishing, riding, at the local stables or on the Moor, Three South Hams golf courses nearby, and plenty of National Trust Properties.
Watermill Cottages. A superb place to bring dogs & kids - plenty of walks and practically no traffic. There's a whole valley to explore, woods to play in and the river to dam and race boats on. The River Gara rarely runs above knee height so it's safe to paddle and they can feed the ducks. Birdwatchers enjoy our wide variety of wood and wetland birds, you can fish for the small brown trout in the river, and moon- and star-gazers love our lack of light pollution. Artists and writers have always found inspiration here John Masefield based a children's novel here, and Tennyson and WB Yeats visited Yeats' artist brother Jack who lived in the valley. One of our cottages was owned by a member of the Bloomsbury Group.
