The cottage is right next to a fantastic old church in an idyllic village in perfect unspoilt countryside. However while in a peaceful rural setting, there are excellent road links to the area's many attractions, so trips can be quickly and easily made. Our Cottage is ideally situated in France for enjoying the sun & warmth, the beautiful scenery, lively activities & cultural heritage of Charente.Just a few minutes from the Chateau of Verteuil and the beautiful Nanteuil en Vallee.
Our Self Catering Accommodation and Features in Villegats
Anam Cara can sleep up to six people in two light and airy double bedrooms, and a double sofa bed in the lounge. Cots and a highchair are available. Both double bedrooms have seating and excellent views out across the orchard and the nearby church, and also plenty of storage space in the built in wardrobe. Both also have bedside tables & reading lights. The cottage has a bathroom with new shower, washbasin and separate WC. The kitchen is well equipped, with south facing views over the patio area, receiving sun from morning to early evening. The living room is large and has ample comfy seating, an open fireplace with cosy woodburning stove, tv for DVDs, dvd player and a library of DVD’s and books. It also has exposed Charente stone walls, beamed alcoves & fireplace with wood burning stove, and looks out through French windows onto a small breakfast balcony overlooking grapevines & mature, gated gardens. The dining area, which can seat six, looks out onto grapevines and tree-lined lawns. Outside there are a private pool, terrace, garden, bbq, a balcony and garden furniture including dining set and sun loungers. Plenty of space to relax and play. Our Holiday Cottage’s Location in Villegats
Our holiday cottage is located in a friendly, traditional French village in a rural location, but is still close to several large towns and cities via the excellent road links. This makes it the perfect stop for people looking for either a quiet countryside break or a base for city exploration. Nearby, in the traditional market town of Ruffec, there are four large supermarkets, a cinema, friendly cafes, bars and restaurants and twice weekly fresh produce markets.
For those looking for history and heritage, there is the Ancient Quarter for the Church of St Andre, the chateau and the original ancient lavoir. As the N10 road is only 5 minutes away, access to other attractions is easy, and you could visit such places as the Futuroscope Theme Park, La Vallee des Singes (the valley of the monkeys), the famous “Martyr Village” which was subject to Nazi massacre in World War Two, Snake Island and Nautillus swimming and ice-skating park. The historic cities of Poitiers and Angouleme are just 30 minutes away. There are also opportunities for fishing, golf, water sports,river and lake swimming, tennis, cycling, mountain biking, walking and climbing within a few minutes drive of our holiday cottage.
West of the cottage are the beautiful beaches of La Rochelle and the Ile de Re. To the south-west are the regions of Cognac and Jarnac, where there are many opportunities to try fine wines and brandys at various tasting events around the region. Some more historic sites in the area are the Chateau of Verteuil, the panoramic views at Barro, the medieval church of Ruffec, the medieval town of Confolens (with its world music and dance festival) the silver mines of Melle, the 12th century abbey at St Amant de Boixe, the protected medieval village of Tusson with spectacular gardens and a museum of rural life and the aquatic labyrinth at St Fraigne. Snake Island
L'ile aux Serpents is a fascinating world of snakes, iguanas, varans, alligators, lizards, turtles and mangees living in a natural environment including caves, water and flora. The vivarium is open all year and you can have close contact if you wish. At La Trimouille, east of Montmorillon and not too far from Les Geants du Ciel at Chauvigny.

nautilus swimming and Ice-Skating Park
Nautilis is a mixed family sports and leisure centre offering water sports and an ice-skating rink. There are two pools available to all ; indoor leisure pools (toboggan, jets, spas) and rooms for natural water and cardiac therapy. Outdoors there is the River Charente, wave pool, pentagliss as well as an inflatable structure of 17m.
