welcome to cueva caballo
Isn't it time to try something a little different? Forget everything you've ever heard or read about caves being damp and cold - the cave houses of Galera in the Altiplano region of Andalucia, have been lived in by the Spanish people for hundreds of years. The caves are still inhabited by Spanish families, but also, these days, by many British people looking for a relaxed & healthy environment - with no damp patches in sight!.
The minute you step inside this welcoming cave house, you will forget the stresses of your day to day life! You will feel your cares just fall away as you enjoy your first welcoming cuppa (or a glass of Spain's finest red....or white!)
Situated in the beautiful and historical white village of Galera, in the province of Granada in southern Spain, Cueva Caballo cave house offers the best in bed and breakfast accommodation.
The lovely village of Galera has everything you are likely to need in terms of banks, post office, bars and restaurants - there is also a doctor's surgery and pharmacy.
During the peak summer months, the eco-friendly casa cueva offers a welcome relief after a day out in the hot sun as it maintains a cool 22 degrees without the need for air-conditioning; during winter, when temperatures can really drop (yes, we get snow!), the log burner is all you need to warm you up as you relax with a good book or the 'soaps' on Satellite TV. All this, along with the tranquillity of the area, means that you will probably have some of the best night's sleep of your life!
Something that will soon occur to you as soon as you arrive - the silence. Because of where Cueva Caballo is situated in Galera, atop a hill about 15 minute’s walk from the village centre, there is no traffic noise and few people. You may hear the occasional cock crowing or donkey neighing but apart from that, most of the time, you could be the only people on the planet!
A short walk to the village however, will provide all the company you want as the local Spanish residents fill the streets with their chatter and natural exuberance - except during siesta time (2pm - 5pm), when the streets become silent for a few hours during the long hot day.
At fiesta time in July/August, Galera becomes a party village when the local people have their families come to stay for a couple of weeks to join in with the festivities. Join in with the merrymaking and you will have an unforgettable experience. The village square becomes a dancehall, theatre, cinema and gathering place as entire families from babies to octogenarians gather until the small hours. There's no better place to people watch
