Welcome to our Romantic Cottages in the Lake District
Seven cottages exclusively for couples have been converted from the barns and stables of historic Ellen Hall in the peaceful Ellen vale in the North Lake District between Cockermouth and the Solway Coast.
Each one is tailor-made for two. Some have four-poster beds on galleried mezzanines, beams and fireplaces with real log-burning stoves. Our 4* barn cottages are perfect for special occasions and romantic treats, and we can arrange for you to be greeted by flowers, champagne, a fruit basket or your favourite chocolates. Our 3* stables cottages have all the simple convenience and comfort you will need after a day on the fells. Hayloft, our 2* cottage is particularly affordable even in high season and just right for those holidaying alone.
Off the beaten track and yet ten minutes drive from excellent roads, the cottages are an ideal base from which to explore Cockermouth - picturesque Georgian market town and birthplace of William Wordsworth; Keswick - capital of the North Lakes; Silloth - Victorian seaside town; Whitehaven - historic port and Carlisle with its awe-inspiring Cathedral, castle and excellent shopping, not to mention the many hidden gems nestling in the countryside and along the beautiful Solway Coast.
The unspoilt Lakes of Crummock Water, Buttermere, Loweswater and Derwent Water and some of the highest mountains (fells) in England are only a 30 minute drive away.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of this rural haven. Take time to relax and recharge your batteries in the peaceful grounds alongside the stream, sample the best of Cumbrian hospitality at the village pub or Bistro just a ten minute walk away, then sleep soundly in your cosy cottage made for two.
