Welcome to the Ambleside backpackers B&B, in Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District in Cumbria.
The hostel is a large old cottage with steps and stairs everywhere, all dorms have fine fell views (you need to stand up for them on the second floor as they are velux windows), wash basins, squeaky floors, prehistoric plumbing, windows that rattle in a gale, hot water eventually and there are separate male and female facilities - but even these have steps in them! - All this in a great location, with tea and coffee and internet access thrown in - what more could you ask for?
We offer, Bed and light self serve breakfast (cerials, bread for toast, preserves - even honey sometimes) in our lovely old building which is slightly different from your average bed and breakfast. The rooms are all bunk bedded and we have 1 X 2 bed (the presidential dorm!- it has a chair too), 3 X 4 bed, 2 X 6 Bed, 2 X 7 bed, 1 X10 bed and 1 X 12 bed rooms. By booking early you can usually get a dorm(s) the right size for your group - or book a whole floor or the whole hostel if you like. If you are travelling by yourself we usually have some dorms set aside as male, female or mixed dorms (only couples or mixed groups may apply for the mixed dorms)
We have a great kitchen you can use as well as a large dining room and a splendid lounge. Self Catering but another way?
We are situated just 4 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside and 7 minutes walk from Lake Windermere
You can walk, run , cycle, mountain bike and tour from the door. We get a lot of climbers and tourists too.
We have a lock up store for bikes, parking for about 20 motorcycles and there is free (at the time of going to print) on street parking around Ambleside Backpackers.
Ambleside is a great village with many outdoor gear and clothing stores, high quality stuff to take to your friends, loads of eating places, a beautiful church to visit and its well placed to visit Grassmere, Hawkshead, Coniston, Elterwater, Skelwith, Keswick, Windermere, Bowness, Patterdale etc. etc. and there are bus services to most of the fell and mountain walk start points and all the major lakes. All the good hills are within a short distance too -Helvelyn, Scafell, Crinkle crags, Bow fell, Langdale pikes, to name but a few.
