La Maison Du Cure Gite in Cormatin near Taize, Cormatin Holiday home

La Maison du Curé  is a self catering holiday cottage in the village of Cormatin. Originally built in 1823, it was the house belonging to the parish priest of Cormatin.  It has been upgraded into a superb gîte but some original features of the priest's house have been retained.

La Maison du Curé has 3 bedrooms, sleeping up to 6 people. It is ideal for families and is available throughout the year. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a bathroom and a toilet . Downstairs there is a entrance hall, a shower room with toilet, a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge with TV and dvd player. There is central heating in all rooms. Outside is a small enclosed garden with a terrace and lawn. 

Cormatin is renowned for its beautifully preserved Chateau and its thriving craft industry which exhibits at the old textile mill. It is well provided with shops, restaurants and a post office.

It is very convenient for Taizé, the famous ecumenical centre, where visitors are given a warm welcome if they wish to attend the services which are held three times a day.  The local town of Cluny with its magnificent Abbey is about ten minutes away by car.

The area is wonderful for walking and cycling.  Cormatin is on the Voie Verte which is the old railway line that runs north to south in Burgundy providing an excellent way to visit  the vineyards. Most villages have a Romanesque church built in the 12th century when Cluny was the religious centre of Europe.

Of course, being Burgundy, there are plenty of wineries where it is possible to taste and buy the wines of the locality. To the south is the region of Beaujolais, while travelling north brings you to the Côte d'Or where you already know the names of the villages from labels on bottles.
