Great location for sunsets and star gazing. Walking & cycling map details picnic spots, hunters look out posts, bird feeders & all routes start & end at the River House. Meals in the fridge/freezer can be arranged. The main town is less than a 5 minute drive with supermarkets, banks, pharmacy, take away outlets, coffee shops etc.
The Moorish town, Silves (10 minutes away), has a castle, cistern well, archaeological museum, a cathedral, the Cruz de Portugal & lots of shops & restaurants to enjoy. Rui's restaurant is known for seafood. The English Cafe near the castle has great views. Silves is the perfect setting for the annual Medieval Festival in August with it’s narrow, cobbled streets, medieval market, barbecues, spit roasts, strolling musicians & jugglers to entertain you.
Alte (15 minutes away), a typical attractive Portuguese village is nearby with picnic tables, bbq facilities, cafe & restaurant at the Fonte Grande where you can to enjoy a swim in the lovely cool waters. Purchase linen, pottery & lavender oil at the handicraft shop. The largest Algarve waterfall, is outside the town.
Enjoy lunch in the quiet square in Caldas de Monchique that is famous for its warm springs. En route to Caldas de Monchique enjoy views on a clear day of the Algarve coast from the highest mountain, Foia, peak (902m) in Serra de Monchique.
Golden flag Falesia beach at Olhas da Agua is 25 mins, with life guards and water sports. A typical fishing village with promenade, shops, restaurants and cafes.
You will find lovely hand painted & hand made pottery at Porches Pottery housed in a beautiful traditional Algarvean Farmhouse building. The Bar Bacchus servers breakfast, light lunches and tea/coffee with home made cakes.
