Would you love to escape then come and stay at Rock Cottage and have it all to yourself as there are no neighbours, owners or other properties in sight, just the exclusive view of the unspoilt Mawgan Creek of the Helford River. The property is bordered by the peaceful tidal waters on two sides, has over 150 metres of private foreshore, large terraced garden, with its own woodland and is enclosed by a gate and Cornish hedging. It sleeps a maximum of 4 adults 2 children and has three bedrooms with full central heating by radiators in all rooms and every room enjoys a garden and river view. Many guests return frequently to celebrate a birthday, engagement, honeymoon or wedding anniversary. It is a great place for a family holiday with the children or a romantic getaway as well as a Christmas and New Year get together.
River & Boat
Moored on a running line from the rocky foreshore is 'Peggy', our sturdy 3.5M rowing dinghy which is available from Easter until the end of October. Guests may fish from the boat. The gentle tidal waters give about 3 hours either side of high water. A Tide Table is provided, and if required, details of nearby launch facilities for those guests who wish to bring a small boat (please discuss when booking). The creek is ideal for kayaks and canoes and guests are welcome to bring these as they can be launched and stored on our large wooden staging. Children enjoy fishing for crabs with bacon and line from where the old boathouse once stood. Access to the river, which may be unsuitable for the infirm, is through the garden or you can wander down through our woodland.
The surroundings are of ancient oaks with soft pastures and wildlife is often seen darting about in the colourful fields and hedgerows. The view is ever-changing and as the water ebbs away, the birds reappear to feed on the mudflats. Many guests are delighted to see Kingfishers, Egrets, Herons, Swans and so much more birdlife living here on the shores at Rock Cottage. An otter has also been spotted. Fishing for Grey Mullet and Sea Bass is popular from either the jetty or out in the dinghy. The Helford River, is of course, a very popular haunt for sailing and water enthusiasts. Catch a glimpse of the Kingfishers as their turquoise flash glistens on the still waters and listen to the Curlews, Terns and other sounds of the waterfowl. See the fish jump and create circles as they forage for food. Outside on the terraced patio is a family sized wooden picnic table with a sun umbrella to shade you. It is a great place to enjoy a barbeque, relax in the recliners provided or eat breakfast on a warm sunny morning. Wander down the garden and you will discover another place to sit. Our guests enjoy painting, reading, bird watching or simply resting and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. Time almost stands still.
Rock Cottage has a stunning new kitchen which has a fabulous uninterrupted view of the garden and Helford River. Guest Book
Lovely cottage, beautiful position, Linda's fabulous bread and fairings. What more can we say, other than we've booked another week in the Autumn.
Just a very sincere thank you from us for our recent stay at Rock Cottage. I can't think of a single thing you could do to make it more comfortable. Your bread was delicious and the Fairings and all the other special touches, including the flowers were very much appreciated. We didn't want to go home! We had a wonderful week - the weather was extraordinary - and we spent it just appreciating the Lizard and Rock Cottage. Our photos look as if they've been taken in the Mediterranean! Thank you once again. It is a privilege to be able to stay in such a cared for cottage in such a beautiful position.
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Much enjoyed having breakfast with the view over the creek; this was ever-changing with glimpses of sun, mist and only a little rain. It was fun watching the birds competing for the seed on the bird table. We have been to Cornwall a number of times but had not explored the Helford River area. It is really unspoilt with nice walks along the creeks and the coastpath. We hope to come back.
Absolutely stunningly gorgeously wonderful time – nature fantastic, view incredible and this place is a home from home. Thank you so much for making Rock Cottage so lovely and welcoming. It been a joy!
Thank you very much to Linda & Robin. We have had a wonderful time. Amazing view and fantastic experience – will definitely come back again.
Thank you for allowing us to share this beautiful place. Even though we had the photos from your website – it didn’t prepare us for the breathtaking view of the creek! Fantastic cottage too! We explored the river endlessly in Peggy. We will see you again!
We have been overwhelmed by the splendid nature, by the creek and by the cottage which fitted ideal to our needs. Thanks for the wonderful time.
We have had a wonderful week here at Rock Cottage. It feels like two holidays for one with the difference the high and low tides bring. We had fun finding the shore crawling with river crabs when the tide was low and delight with rowing Peggy on a high tide. It was beautiful to see the sunrise and then the clouds of mist rising in the early morning to later clear and leave a calm body of water. The bird table has brought many species – too many to list. Thank you Robin and Linda for your warm and very helpful welcome and for the lovely flowers. We wish we could stay much longer!
Lovely visit to Rock Cottage. We loved the views, sailing and Peggy. Thank you for a wonderful week – our first in the Helford River area.
I’m going to miss the peace of eating breakfast here at the picnic table, listening to the birds and watching the creek fill or empty. The beaches were amazing – so much clearer than those on the East coast.
Thank you Linda and Robin for making everything “special” in the cottage. We have truly had a fantastic holiday.
