Welcome to our Self Catering Accommodation in County Mayo, Ireland.
We have two comfortable and spacious self catering houses suitable for families, couples, friends, or a combination of these. There is a two bedroom house, Rosturk Woods, and a six bedroom house, Rosturk Waterfall House. Both houses are situated separately in private woodland, with access to the shore down a path which leads directly through the woodland to a safe beach. When the tide is out, you can walk for miles on hard sand amongst the near islands, or even to Mulranny when the low tides are at their lowest. When the tide is in, the sea laps the rocks at the bottom of the wood.
Rosturk Woods is situated on the unspoilt west coast of Ireland between the thriving town of Westport, and the rugged landscapes of Achill and Belmullet. Connemara is roughly 60kms to the south, and the beautiful wilderness, made famous by the artist Paul Henry, is an ideal destination for a day trip by car. Croagh Patrick, from where legend has it that St. Patrick threw all the snakes and reptiles from Ireland, stands on the opposite shore of Clew Bay to Rosturk Woods, and is worth the climb to the top up the pilgrim’s path in fine weather. Traditional music sessions are hosted in the pubs in Newprt and Westport, but don’t expect the sessions to start until late in the evening!
Rosturk Woods is an ideal base for a number of outdoor adventure and sporting activities such as sea-kayaking, or sailing, or walking on empty beaches at the edge of the Atlantic, or bicycling the “Old Railway” between Achill Sound and Westport, or sea and fresh water angling. We can arrange boat trips out onto Clew Bay to catch mackerel (children never tire of the fun of pulling mackerel over the rail of the boat), or to land on one of the islands for a picnic, or to see if the seals have hauled out at their favourite spots. If you are very lucky, an otter may find you while you are out on the bay.
There are several golf courses in the area: Westport, Enniscrone and Carne in Belmullet are all within an hour’s drive, and are all 18 hole courses. Mulranny, just 3 miles away, boasts a 9 hole links course that captivates all who have played it. Because Mulranny golf course is on “commonage”, there are local course rules to accommodate the livestock that share the course!
You can always simply unwind in comfortable surroundings, with clean air to breathe and good locally produced food to eat. It is no secret the Ireland grows the best grass in Europe and has the deseved reputation of producing some of the finest beef and lamb, and while here you can sample this produce at first hand close to its source. There are award winning butchers in Newport who will gladly prepare your order in advance of your arrival if you wish.
