Welcome to our self catering cottages near Hadrian's Wall and the Border City of Carlisle
Tarnside is working Farm and Racing Stables.Maurice and Anne Barnes are the owners and the atmosphere is a friendly one ,everyone is welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The log fire is great and can be used all year round ,plenty of logs and all free of charge !! Champagne and Flowers can be arranged prior to your visit ,for that special treat !! All our visitors will find a complimentary bottle of wine and a sweet treat on arrival and the fire will be crackling if they arrive in the evening or if it is a cold wet day.If visitors are travelling from afar we can easily get basic groceries if ordered beore arrival. New kitchens and bathrooms in 2012..

The Tarn is only 10 mins walk from the centre of Farlam , a lovely walk to end the day.The local Pub is at Talkin Village ,a mile up the road.Brampton is 2 miles away and there are some really interesting shops including a big Antique Centre.Hadrian's Wall is 10 mins drive,Gretna Green 20 mins, Carlisle 20 mins,Newcastle 50 mins.Visitors are free to wander about the Stables when staff are about,and if they wish it can be arranged for visits to the Gallops !! Dogs can be taken into the fields around the farm for their daily excersise.
Carlisle is the Great Border City and offers a selection of things to do including The Castle,Tullie House Museum and The Cathedral,A super variety of shops and good places to eat. We are close to Hexham too ,and we often have runners at the race course .If you enjoy walking then this is the place to stay,the fells behind Tarnside are very unspoilt and the r s p b own quite a large part ,most of which is open to the Public.Birdlife is excellent ,we have bird tables outside both cottages and visitors can see the Greater Spotted Woodpecker and the little Nuthatch who visit all the time for their daily supply of nuts etc. !!
Some good places to enjoy food locally.The local Pub is The Blacksmith's Arms at Talkin, one mile from the cottages.
If you like to run ,then it is great to go round the Tarn early morning.
Watch the horses at work ,they cool off in front of the cottages !! Go racing at a local track and see our horses running.
