Welcome to The Chestnuts 4 star luxury Holiday Cottage in the Cotswolds. We aim to provide urban chic in a rural idyll, and a place where luxury and sustainability meet. The Chestnuts self catering cottage is run as a carbon neutral business. The holiday cottage is located in the beautiful Cotswolds village of Shilton, near Burford in Oxfordshire, and provides luxury holiday accommodation for between up to10 people.

The Cottage
The Chestnuts is an outstanding, traditional, yet chic, Cotswold cottage the main part of which dates back to the 1850s. It has many original features including a curved stone stairway, beamed ceilings and a large inglenook fireplace with bread oven. The original building has recently been sympathetically extended and today the holiday property comprises three bedrooms, two lounges, two luxury bathrooms and a separate shower room. All the rooms are interior designed in soothing neutral colours with original art works and artefacts.
Cottage Facilities
The holiday cottage has every modern comfort which will make your stay totally relaxing; the fully fitted kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer. It is equipped for the gourmet chef with all the utensils, cookery books and cooking equipment you should need, as well as the finest Riedel wine glasses, white bone china place settings and a Gaggia coffee espresso/cappuccino machine.
There are flat screen televisions (with freeview) in both lounges and in each bedroom, together with cd, dvd and Bose iPod docking station facilities. There is a small library of hand picked books, information guides, maps, dvds and CDs, as well as games for all ages. We have recently installed free wireless internet and telephone (to most National and International numbers) to keep you fully connected (just bring your lap top).
The three double bedrooms upstairs, one with en-suite bathroom/dressing room sleep up to six guests. The cottage also has two double sofa beds (one in each lounge) to sleep an extra four people. It therefore provides flexible luxurious holiday accommodation in the Cotswolds for up to 10 people.
Cottage Garden
Set in the very heart of Shilton, a beautiful village in the Cotswolds, the secluded garden of the cottage has one of the best positions in the village. The garden is a very good size and has the added benefit of tremendous views over the adjoining meadow towards the ford. This ancient meadow is full of kingcups and cow parsley in the summer and is periodically grazed by sheep or horses.
There are numerous places to sit and dine in the garden and outside lights have been placed throughout the garden for your enhanced enjoyment. However, we suggest that you stay out in the garden in the dark; one of the joys of Shilton is its night sky. The relative lack of light pollution here can lead to some spectacular starry nights. The trees on the river bank are also home to many birds and you can often hear owls hooting to one another.
Cottage Location
Shilton is near Burford, in Oxfordshire. This Cotswolds village may appear to be sleepy but lots of events are organised throughout the year. Highlights to look out for are the village Easter Egg Rolling and Duck Race, the Garden Open Day in June, the annual village Summer Fete in August and the door to door Carol singing and Christmas Candlelight service.
The gardens of Shilton are special to all who live here, because every June as many residents as possible open up their pride and joy gardens to the public for viewing. Funds are raised for the Church and local charities and if you are lucky enough to be visiting that weekend you will have a chance to view Shilton from many spots that remain exclusive only to their owners for the rest of the year.

At The Chestnuts we are making a contribution to preserving the environment and reducing global warming. We are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and are proud to hold their Silver Award. Details of this scheme and the measures we are taking can be found in both our Green Operational Manual and our Green Manual for guests at the cottage.
We also run our holiday cottage business as a Carbon Neutral Enterprise and offset any carbon emissions that we can not eliminate with the company co2balance, who audit us annually and put a portion of our contribution to the planting of trees on land adjacent to Summercombe wood in Somerset.
