'The Cottage' is a traditional sandstone holiday cottage located in the Cumbrian picturesque coastal village of St Bees. Full of character, it is ideal at any time of the year with a lovely large open fireplace where you can enjoy a log fire. Many original features still remain including wooden beams, rough stone walls and a historic stone staircase. The cottage also affords fine westerly views to St Bees Head and over the Irish sea, and there is a small garden with open aspect and children’s playhouse, making it ideal for family holidays by the sea.
Just a short walk from the beach, The Cottage is close to the lakes and mountains of the Western Lake District and there are three pubs, a restaurant, and a village store/Post Office within 200 yards of the cottage. The village is the starting point for many great walks (including the Coast to Coast long distance footpath) with many leading through the bird sanctuary at St Bees Head.
St Bees is on the coast on the western fringes of the Lake District, and is the closest point in England to the Isle of Man which can be seen looming out of the Irish Sea on a clear day. The lakes of Wasdale and Ennerdale are within easy driving distance along with numerous Lakeland fells including the highest mountain in England – Scafell Pike (approximately eighteen miles away).
The local Georgian harbour town of Whitehaven is only four miles up the coast and the lakeside town of Keswick and market town of Cockermouth are within easy reach. This making The Cottage an ideal place for a holiday by the sea or to use as a base from which to explore the Lake District and its many attractions.
