The front part of the Smugglers dates back to the early 1700s when it was a number of small dwellings. Over the years the Smugglers has had a variety of uses; it was once a sweet shop and a dressmakers. It has been run as a hotel and restaurant since the early 1950s.Newlyn has attracted artists over the years t c gotch first came to the area in 1880. The first artist to settle here was Walter Langley he made Newlyn his home in 1882. Stanhope Forbes arrived in 1884 and throughout the rest of the 1880's the colony grew drawn by the quality of light and the wonderful scenery.
