Wren Cottage is a warm and characterful modern home with everything you could want for a self catering holiday in Dorset. Nearby is the village pub, The Martyrs, and a lovely play area with seating and views. Athelhampton House is a 1.5 miles away and the County Town of Dorchester is 7.5 miles away, although Puddletown, 2.3 miles, offers a comprehensive village shop with butcher. The World Heritage Jurassic Coast lies 11.5 miles away and the property is close to Max Gate, the home of Thomas Hardy; Monkey World; The Tank Museum at Bovington and numerous other visitor attractions.
The pretty little village of Tolpuddle sits in the Piddle Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and this delightful detached cottage forms part of an historic village amongst picturesque thatched cottages. Tolpuddle is famous for The Martyrs, six farm labourers arrested in 1834 for trade union activity and sentenced to transportation to Australia. Thousands of people protested and, after three years, the men returned to England with free pardons and were treated as heroes.
The village boasts a lovely C12 church, the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum, the Martyrs Inn, and a Village Hall.
You can enjoy delightful walks using the wealth of footpaths and bridleways nearby and can take a walk along the River Piddle to the C15 Athelhampton House and Gardens, with its Restaurant/tea room.
Inn the cottage itself, the hall with exposed brickwork and stone floor leads to the oak floored Living Room with twin leather sofas, a TV with dvd player and freeview, i pod docking station and plenty of games and jigsaws. An electric cast iron stove completes the homely effect. The Kitchen Diner has an oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washer drier, dishwasher, butler sink and beech worktops. Painted furniture throughout is offset by the stone floor. There is a cloakroom on the ground floor.
Upstairs, there is a king size bedroom with lovely views, a twin bedroom (3' beds) again with views, a bathroom and a newly fitted shower room. The cottage offers parking for 2 cars, front and rear gardens with garden furniture and BBQ. Wi-fi is available.
The rear garden is not overlooked and is of a good size. It is fully enclosed and adult well behaved dogs are welcome at a charge of £15 per head.
