Helensburgh is on the North shore of the Firth of Clyde and the Eastern shore of the entrance to the Gare Loch. It has 3 railway stations, a marina at Rhu (one of the main sailing venues on the Clyde estuary) and a sailing club. The golf club has views to the South out over the Clyde and to the North of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs Hills. Its location makes it an ideal base for touring West Central Scotland but you can also be in Glasgow in under 45 minutes. The town offers shops for all tastes and has some very good architecture. The architectural highlight is Hill House which was built in 1904 and was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. This is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
