North Wales Borderlands is a large area of land with many different landscapes within it. The area is made up of hills of the Clwydian range, selected as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and long sandy beaches. In the Bordelands there are plenty of historic sites, fortresses and castles to explore, from Wales’s largest prehistoric monument, Gop Cairn, to Chirk Castle. The River Dee runs through the borderlands which is ideal for all year round white water rafting and canoeing. For less active ways to explore the area is by canal boat where you can cross the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a major water features in the North Wales Borderlands. It’s the world’s tallest canal boat crossing.
For golfers there are many championship golf courses to try out. The border town of Chirk has the second longest hole in Britain. In this area there are a variety of walking routes that can suit every interest and ability. The pathways along the shoreline and riversides allow you to explore the Dee Estuary.
