Campbeltown lies near the Mull of Kintyre and is close to the Gulf Stream so its temperature is generally above the UK average. At one point it had 34 distilleries and was called the whisky capital of the world and the well known folk song “Campbeltown Loch I wish You Were Whisky” celebrates the whisky heritage of the town. There are now only 3 high quality distilleries but It also boasts a museum and heritage centre. It is also a great base for touring the area and for sailing and other watersports activities such as wind-surfing.
