John O’Groats in Caithness in the Highlands, is not the most northern village in the UK but is at the northerly end of the longest distance between two points on the British mainland, the other being . Land's End. It is therefore the traditional end (or start!) point for the Land’s End to John O’Groats long distance walk the length of the UK mainland.
